4 Tips to Create a Quality Custom Shaped USB Drive
There’s no question that custom shaped flash drives give a sense of novelty to a practical tool—a traditional rectangular USB simply cannot compete. Since the making of these creative digital devices is our business, we’ve seen and done it all. As a result, we know what works and what doesn’t. If you’re considering having us design a promotional USB drive for you, here’s some tips to keep in mind before you go to the drawing board in order to optimize your brand for the best response from your target audience.
Tip #1
The placement of the USB connector should be a priority. Nothing ruins the cool shape of a promotional USB drive faster than a poorly placed connector. If you use part of the shape as the cap and part of the design as the body, it should be split apart at a natural breaking point that maintains the integrity of the design. More importantly, where you place the connector determines how it looks when it is plugged in. This can render a comedic effect when your custom shaped USB is made into a person or animal, however you want to make sure that it is intentional.
Tip #2
Be mindful of movement and function. Know that a simple cap covering the connector is not your only option. Flash drives can swivel, slide and retract. How a user will access it makes an impression almost equal to the overall look.
Tip #3
Tailor your design to the material, not the other way around. If you’re looking to create an elaborate and colorful custom shaped USB drive, a soft PVC rubber will provide you with the most flexible possibilities. The PVC is cast in layers in a mold. When you get into using metal or wood, our production experts use lasers and cutting tools to create your design. Each flash drive material will convey a different impression of the same brand to the user (PVC- playful, wood- organic and rustic, metal- professional).
Tip #4
Incorporate lots of color and texture. Have colors correspond to those associated with your brand for easier identification by your target audience.
