CES 2012 Preview This year’s annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2012) is just days away from descending on the desert city of Las Vegas.  With 1.6 million square feet of exhibit space and more than 140,000 attendees, it’s expected to be a melting pot of sheer geekery, booth babes and eye-opening trends.  And Premium USB would know.  As attendees of last year’s show, we brought you all the latest updates on USB gadgets and related items that make the world go round.  This year, we’re anticipating a whole new crop of innovation and fun.

Here are just a few things we’re excited to check out:

Ultrabooks

Last year, the CES buzzword was tablet.  However no one came close to Apple’s iPad.  As a result, the PC world appears to be taking a new course of action, as if in response to the MacBook Air.  Touted as the way of the future for the PC, Ultrabooks will even look like the MacBook Air, but boast new Intel chipsets powered by USB 3.0.  As a result, these Ultrabooks are anticipated to bring exceptional battery life and performance to a thinner design.  Additionally, these computers are all about flash operation and have no optical drives.  As many as 50 models from various companies are expected to surface.

USB Monitors

Their expansive display belies these portable, easily pluggable monitors.  This class of USB devices is expected to be popular among consumers who may have gone the way of notebooks but are looking for an enhanced yet affordable display for multimedia and home entertainment needs.  Count on the USB 3.0 interface to hook these monitors up.

Windows 8

Although Microsoft will take a final keynote bow at CES 2012 this year, we anticipate seeing Windows 8 in action.  More specifically, we’ll be eager to see it how it operates on tablets.

Car Audio

Automobiles continue to move forward as an exciting element of the show. Dashboard entertainment systems have become increasingly high tech thanks to our demand to incorporate the smartphone and tablet experience even while driving.  Think Audi, Cadillac, Mercedes-Benz, Tesla, Ford and more.

USB Chargers

As the power and performance demand of our portable devices grows, so does our need for proper and intuitive ways to charge them.  We’ve heard buzz about powering devices that can do it all—from proprietary and USB chargers combating vampire power to juicing devices with a fuel cell powered by tap water.

Additionally, we’re on the hunt for standout USB flash drives.  Corsair, Dane-Elec, ADATA, Mimoco, Imation and Victorinox are just a few of the names we hope to see.  It’s also fun to discover those unexpected finds, like an up-and-coming company or manufacturer with a great USB concept.  Premium USB is all about finding flash drives with the latest performance trends.  Expect for us to keep you posted on all of our discoveries!
