CES 2011 Showcase: Verbatim’s New Netbook USB Flash DriveVerbatim is not a name you hear very much over here at Premium USB, in fact it’s much more synonymous with CDROM2GO, but while attending CES this past week, we ran across the Verbatim booth and were pleasantly surprised. This year at CES, Verbatim surprised even us with the announcement of some new USB flash drive and one in particular caught our eye.

This new USB drive is one of the smallest we have ever seen and coming from a brand more notably known for producing optical media such as CDs and DVDs, it was quite surprising. Their new USB drive is called Netbook USB flash drive and despite its small size, it packs quite a punch.

At first glance one cannot deny that the Netbook USB drive is super small; so small in fact that the entire USB drive is about the size of a quarter and that includes the USB connector as well. It features a flat black casing and upon first glance, looks much more like a USB dongle than a USB flash drive. In fact when we first saw it at the Verbatim booth at CES that is exactly what we thought it was. However upon further inspection and a nice chat with the Verbatim representatives, we realized that this was something much more than just a dongle.

The Netbook USB drive only protrudes 5mm outside of any USB port and is ideal for laptops and Netbooks as it helps alleviate those bulky and potentially USB port threatening USB drives. Also do to its space saving design, it weighs much less than an ordinary USB; which makes it even less intrusive than its larger counterpart.

This new USB drive of course works on Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems and comes in 4GB, 8GB, or 16GB data capacities. This offers plenty of storage space for hundreds of pictures, songs, and even enough space for several videos!

As a side note, Verbatim does have a second version of their Netbook USB flash drive called the Car Audio Edition that was specifically made for automotive applications and, like the original, is available for purchase right now.

Our overall impressions of the Verbatim USB drive were rather positive. It is a super small drive that fulfills a need for many laptop and netbook users as well as has enough space that you could literally plug it in and forget it is there.
