Promotional USB flash drives are more competitive than ever and have quickly risen to be one of the most popular promotional items on the market today. It is not hard to see why; their small, light weight, can be custom printed, and preloaded with your content. Yes they have become a phenomenon in the promotional world with almost unlimited potential; however, custom USBs still have a region of opportunity that remains largely untouched by the vast majority: USB Auto Launch!
USB Auto Launch, or sometimes called USB autorun, remains a hidden gem just waiting to be found and used to its full potential. With Premium USB’s Auto Launch, we are able to create an auto launch menu that pops up every time someone plugs your promotional flash drive in their computer. This becomes an enormous advantage over the competition because while promotional content can be forgotten or in some cases deleted, an auto launch menu will always pop up upon insertion.
What exactly can a USB Auto Launch run? Short answer to this question is just about anything really. An auto launch can launch specific files on the USB drive including movies, slide shows, PDF files or even launch websites or start portable applications. This can all be achieved with our Auto Launch data service and much more.
Of course an Auto Launch would not be complete without a customizable interface. We offer variations to our Auto Launch ranging from the simplistic Starter Package that includes the basics, all the way up to our custom package that can be as interactive and custom as you want. If you want a menu that will display your company logo and have a button link to your website, then we have a package for that. If you want a fully interactive menu with links to your website as well as buttons to view files such as movies or audio files, we have a package for that as well.
USB Auto Launch is a phenomenal option for those who wish to add that little extra that will put their project over the top. However there are a few things you should know before choosing if an Auto Launch/autorun options is best for you. Auto launch does not work on Mac. If your customer base is large Mac users, then please note that when a customer plugs your USB in their machine, they will have to physically start the Auto Launch every time by clicking on the USB drive icon.
Windows 7 users will also notice that your USB with Auto Launch will not properly autorun. This is because of an increased security feature pertaining to viruses and spyware that prevents any device from autorunning, including even CDs. Good news, however, is that Windows 7 users are actually able to disable this security feature and restore the use of the autorun, much like Windows XP. An end user can accomplish this by simply going to your control panel, clicking on Hardware and Sound, then AutoPlay, and unchecking the “Use AutoPlay for All Devices” box.
It should be noted that although autorun is disabled on Windows 7 and Mac OS, a customer can still access your promotional material and your Auto Launch by simply opening up the USB drive. It is a minor annoyance, but has a very simple work around and one users will still be exposed to upon opening up the USB drive.
