USBs for Higher Education

USBs for Higher EducationI was recently at a family gathering talking with several of my cousins and nephews and somehow the topic of school came up. Now I remember my elementary through high school years fairly well, but their experiences that they were describing were nowhere close to the experiences that I had. I remember learning cursive, doing math without calculators, and having to hand write everything from notes to assignments. My cousins and nephews, who are much younger than I am, were talking about typing on keyboards and using USB flash drives to carry their assignments instead of folders.

When I was growing up in school, we had “computer labs” where the only computers the school could afford were kept and students barely used them. Now with advances in technology and the price decrease in personal computers, it is not uncommon to have students carrying around laptops in their bags or USB drive on their key chains. It seems the days of carrying around pens, pencils, paper, and folders are swiftly coming to an end and being replaced by custom flash drives, memory cards, and portable computers.

Even in college did I rarely see or use a flash drive. I don’t even think it was until my sophomore year that I even purchased my first one. Actually, I did not even know I was buying it. It was buried amongst a series of computer books and the drive itself only held 128mb. My first drive is trivial by today’s standards, but back then 128mb was actually fairly decent. Today’s flash drives can reach up into the hundreds of gigabytes, but your average drive will be somewhere between 1gb and 16gb.

Today though, it would be hard to find someone who did not have at least one flash drive. USB flash drives come in all shapes, sizes, and capacities as well as can be bought in retail quantities, bulk flash drive quantities, or can even be custom made in the form of custom shaped USB drives. It is nice to see that technology is being adopted in classrooms. I’ve even heard other people I work with or am friends with that their 5th grade teacher is requiring all her students to have a USB flash drive for class. With this current trend I’m sure soon, finger painting projects will be done on touch screens and taken home on USBs by Kindergarteners. Although, it is nice to see that this technology so widely accepted that even younger students in elementary school are utilizing the benefits.

It seems that USB drives have come full circle and are here to stay. Five years ago almost no one even knew what a USB drive was, but today it would be hard to find someone who didn’t know what a USB drive is. At Premium USB we see retail, bulk, and even custom USBs being in more demand in the future and we are preparing for tomorrow so that everyone will have their own personalized USB drive that they can use at their leisure.
